Shopping My Closet Like Audrey Hepburn

If you know me well, you know that I had a serious problem with hoarding clothing. I held onto clothes for sentimental reasons, because it was a gift, and my favourite excuse, "it might come back in style". My problem hit me hard when I moved for the first time this year and I had to go through countless bags of clothes. I kept thinking why. Why do I have all of this when I don't wear most of it? Why do I need my own large closet, plus half of my husbands and both drawers under our bed? It was ridiculous and it stressed me out. So I went on a decluttering spurt and donated most of my clothes. As I have been going through this process I have discovered two things: 1) Almost all the clothes I have kept were hand-me-downs (my favourite form of "shopping"), thrifted or vintage, not clothes I purchased myself. Reasons on this can make up another blog post. 2) I don't dress the style I want to have everyday because of having too many options. This brings us to my Audrey Hepburn experiment. Again if you know me well, you know Audrey Hepburn is my muse. I think she carried grace, elegance and kindness around with her everywhere. Every casual photo of her equally shows her class and playfulness. Now being a huge fan, I have collected some pieces inspired by Breakfast at Tiffany's, but I can't wear a fancy black dress with pearls sewn on the collar everyday. So I shopped my closet and did my best to put together 8 timeless pieces inspired by Audrey that I can see myself wearing many times this summer/fall. I am doing this for my own sake in finding my style through my now small wardrobe. I also added my thoughts as I did this. If you want to declutter your closet, I strongly encourage you to do it before you make excuses! It has been the most satisfying thing and I feel less stressed. Also I bet you'll find some hidden gems just like I did.
